About Navigating Elderhood
-
Unlike traditional care services, which often focus only on medical or personal care, Navigating Elderhood offers concierge-like services involving a carefully crafted schedule based on clients’ lifestyles and wellness needs. NE’s medically trained advocates draw from a wealth of knowledge, resources, and experience to empower clients in living the way they want and doing the things they enjoy. We are also unique in that we work with the client’s whole family to provide cohesive support.
-
Our care advocates have received post-baccalaureate education and completed extensive training both outside of and through Navigating Elderhood in order to engage in this work. These team members bring knowledge from both holistic practices and the scope of the medical practice and are able to provide guidance on how to navigate the medical system. With their dedication, critical thinking skills, knowledge of resources, touch of humor, and attention to detail, NE advocates create a joyful and compassionate presence in the home of each client.
-
Yes, all Navigating Elderhood care advocates undergo extensive training, background checks, and ongoing education to ensure they provide the highest level of service, professionalism, and safety.
-
Navigating Elderhood is designed for adults who want to maintain independence and live life on their terms as well as for families seeking personalized, high-quality support for their loved ones. You do not need to be an ”elder” to hire Navigating Elderhood. Even minor health complications or transitions can be an ideal situation in which to hire a care advocate. Whether clients need assistance with daily activities, help coordinating medical and non-medical appointments, or simply a trusted advocate by their side, our team is here to help.
-
Our clients typically hear about Navigating Elderhood through word of mouth and are referred by someone familiar with our services. Once we connect with a family, we offer consultations to support them in examining their options for care advocacy.
Getting Started
-
Care advocates do not only step in when their clients have lost the ability to care for themselves. NE aims to help clients live their best lives for as long as possible, and the level of care provided depends on the level of care desired. Even if all that has changed is a single diagnosis, a shift in circumstance, or a change in what family members are available to provide support, NE provides a layer of support to help families adapt to anything.
-
We start with a one-on-one consultation to learn about the client’s lifestyle, routines, and specific needs. Clients are encouraged to invite family members if they prefer to do so, and consultations may be in person or virtual. From there, we design a customized support plan that evolves as their needs change, ensuring they receive the right level of care and attention at all times.
-
It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about accepting help. We take a relationship-based approach, getting to know our clients and working at their pace to build trust. Our goal is to empower, support, and enhance their daily life while maintaining their independence.
-
Please contact info@navigatingelderhood.com with any questions. We provide consultations for those looking to utilize our services and can speak with you over the phone, Zoom or in person. Cori Levin, NE’s founder and lead care advocate, is the primary point of contact for anything related to communication, scheduling, change of care, follow-throughs, and billing.
Care Services & Support
-
Yes! We collaborate with doctors, caregivers, and family members to ensure a cohesive support system. Whether it’s coordinating medical appointments, advocating for a client’s needs, or keeping loved ones informed, we act as a trusted bridge between all parties.
-
Adult children can still be involved in advocating for their aging parents when they do not live nearby. This can include having groceries and other items delivered as well as researching local resources to step in when care needs increase. Navigating Elderhood is constantly collaborating with the family members of its clients, taking the burden off of adult children with limited capacity while also keeping them involved by helping them support their loved ones. We do this work until the end, keeping family members involved at every stage.
-
Navigating Elderhood does not manage clients’ finances, cook elaborate meals, or clean houses. While we can direct clients to resources related to these areas, we do not provide these services in order to prioritize the areas where we are most needed and skilled.
-
Navigating Elderhood can travel with its clients in many cases. Nearly every service that NE advocates carry out in clients’ homes—from making scheduling arrangements to providing physician-directed medical support—can also be carried out while traveling.
Scheduling & Availability
-
Our services are completely customizable to each client’s needs. Whether it’s occasional check-ins, weekly visits, or daily support, we work with each family to determine the best schedule for them. We offer services for a minimum of two hours per visit but can provide support for up to forty hours in a week. Navigating Elderhood can also partner with other local services to provide overnight help if needed.
-
